B. Cutright Buckhannon, W. Va., July 1, 1907 Pages 449-450 WILLIAM FRANKLIN FIDLER was born July 23, 1849. The son of William Martin and Mary Jane (Hudson) Fidler of Virginia. The original name was Fielding, but by careless pronunciation it has become Fidler. The German spelling, Fiedler, is sometimes used. William Franklin Fidler was married October 29, 1874, to Mary Emma McAvoy, the daughter of James McAvoy and Louisa (Young) McAvoy. Louisa (Young) McAvoy was the daughter of Lydia Gould, who was the daughter of Martha Gilbert, who was the daughter of Esther Perkins, who was the daughter of Catherine Prifach. James McAvoy was the son of John McAvoy and was raised in Bath County, Va. His great grandfather was born in Ireland, who when a school boy was enticed on board a U. S. Vessel and brought to the U. S. Children of the subject of this sketch: Victor Leigh, who died young, Clarence Hall, Blanche Katherina, Stanley Huff, Willard Livingstone. Clarence Hall married Annie Angold of Pueblo, Colorado. He is a traveling salesman. He was educated in the public schools, the Academy at Buckhannon and the Mountain State Business College at Parkersburg. Stanley Huff is in the U. S. Railway Mail Service. Mr. Fidler is a contractor and carpenter. E. FIDLER Last rites will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Rock Cave Methodist Episcopal church for Mrs. Mary Emma McAvoy Fidler, 84, who died yesterday at her home at Rock Cave, Upshur county. The Rev. P. L. Bruce, Presbyterian minister, will conduct the services, and interment will be made in Rock Cave cemetery. Survivors are two sons, Clarence H. and Stanley H. Fidler, both of Morgantown. Mrs. Fidler was the widow of William F. Fidler, who died July 10, 1934. They had lived together in the old residence at Rock Cave for fifty-nine years. They were married October 4, 1874. Mrs. Fidler was born May 2, 1851, on the old McAvoy farm, near Rock Cave, the youngest daughter of James and Louisa Young McAvoy. The Youngs migrated from Massachusetts in 1811 and the McAvoys from Bath county, Virginia, in 1810. She was the last survivor of seventy-one grand-children of Robert and Lyda Gould Young, whose posterity include a large portion of the population of Upshur county. Mrs. Fidler was graduated from the old French Creek academy in 1870.
