Raleigh County, page 220. =============================================================================== Tompson, George (American; 5 years exper; age 30; Married; 2 children) December 29, 1905. George Tompson, Beckley Mine, was killed by a fall of slate known as a "kettle bottom," which became loose as soon as- coal was mined from under it. It broke off square at rib of entry of which he was driving. He was not aware of its presence, for he was standing right under it, picking between a prop and the face of the entry. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Guiseppe, Guarino (Italian; 3 years exper; age 30; Married; 2 children) April 13, 1906. Guarino Guiseppe, Terry Mine, was killed and three others non-fatally injured. Monitor derailed near passing point, collided with loaded monitor, turning empty monitor over. Guiseppe was riding the bridle, and in trying to save himself must have fallen under the monitor and the wheels of the same passed over him. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stevens, Abner (Negro) June 18, 1906. Abner Stevens, Piney No. 1 Mine, went into his room, contrary to orders, before it was examined and fired the gas.
