James Newman, Lanark Mine, was run over by mine locomotive and instantly killed. It seems the mine cars are dropped clown the narrow gauge railroad to the drum house in front of a small steam engine. These cars by some means became uncoupled from the engine, and Newman fell from the cars directly in front of the engine. George Lusher, Stonewall Mine No. 3, drove into the mine at a reckless rate of speed, and while passing over a parting the car left the track and struck some mine timbers, knocking them down and causing slate to fall from the top, crushing him. Author Cooper, Lanark Mine, leaving place where he should have been at work he walked out on main entry parting, passing by car pulled by a mule. After going a few feet the mule fell and the car becoming unhooked from mule on a steep grade it ran back, catching Cooper and dragging him about 90 feet, injuring him so severely he died the next day. Grant Bryant, Stonewall Mine No. 3, had left his regular working place and went up to work with a friend, Henry Toney. Toney advised him against drawing a certain piece of slate from the top before setting additional timbers. Bryant insisted on pulling down the slate and was struck on back by piece.
