John Sztaskovic, Montana Mine, was killed by coming in contact with an electric wire as he was going in the mines to his work. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Shultz, Simon (Lithuanian; 15 yrs exper; age 46; Married) July 26, 1906. Simon Shultz, Monongah Mine No. 5. He had finished a place and had taken his turn out and had taken one cut out of a new place, but went back to the one he had left to take some coal off of the stump, and in doing so he took the support from under the rock, caus- ing it to fall which resulted in instant death. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Marra, Salvatore (Italian; 6 yrs exper; age 28; Single) September 20, 1906. Salvatore Marra, Gaston Mine, while riding in a car to his work in the mines attempted to get out. In rising from a sitting position he struck his head or neck against the trolley wire, receiving a severe shock from which he never recovered, dying some twenty minutes later. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Reeves, Sandor (Hungarian; 2 yrs exper; age 23; Married) October 19, 1906. Sandor Reeves, Hutchinson Mine. He was coming up the heading with two loaded cars. It is supposed he was standing on the head end of the car opposite the brake. In some manner he was caught between the car and rib and crushed to death. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dunn, Robert (American; age 40; Married; 1 child) October 19, 1906, died November 2, 1906. Robert Dunn, Federal Shaft Mine, was calking six inch air line at flange joint when the pipe pulled out of the flange the air pressure struck him in the face which pene- trated lungs and tissues. Was sent to the hospital where he died. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hawkinberry, Lark (American; 36 yrs exper; age 51; Married; 8 Children) November 3, 1906. Lark Hawkinberry, Federal Shaft Mine, was as- cending on cage with six other men and by some unexplained cause fell from cage to bottom of shaft, killing him instantly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Urah, John (Polish; 1 yr exper; age 34; Married; 2 children) November 8, 1906. John Urah, Anderson Mine, while assisting Geo. Garlock to load his car, stooped down to clean some coal from under the car wheels when 1000 pounds of slate fell on Urah, killing him in- stantly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fikan, Andrew (Slavish; 5 yrs exper; age 32; Single) November 9, 1906. Andrew Fikan, Monongah No. 6 Mine, had been en- gaged in cleaning up a little fall of slate but left in order to get a pick. When coming back a fall of slate came, catching him under full weight of same. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Summers, Martin L. (American; 12 yrs exper; age 27; Married; 2 children) November 13, 1906. Martin L. Summers and Chas. Drake, King Mine, both being drivers, were bringing out 26 loaded mine cars when they lost control of the cars. The cars jumped the tract at the bottom of heading and caught Summers between rib and car, causing instant death. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Croy, W. T. (American; 6 yrs exper; age 49; Married; 2 children) December 24, 1906. W. T. Croy, New England Mine, was delivering five barrels of cement to Gaston Mine. There is a slight grade in road at point where accident occurred and in some manner he fell off seat of wagon in front of wheels and was run over by same and killed in- stantly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - McCauley, Thomas (Polish; 23 months exper; age 22; Single) April 26, 1907. Thomas McCauley, Middleton Mine, with Mike Kat- waski, his partner, was working on pillar No. 2 which had been drawn nearly to the heading stump. They were taking off the last piece. The stump being about 5 by S ft. and was mined through all but about 3 ft. on end next to track and a small piece under the loose end left for a sprag. McCauley told his partner to cut this sprag out which he refused to do, saying it was not safe to take it out, but they would shoot it out. McCauley insisted the sprag be mined out and took his pick and went to work at it himself. His partner got him away but he return- ed and worked at it again and had only struck a few times when about half of the stump fell on him, killing him instantly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Harr, Alonzo (American; 9 yrs exper; age 29; Married; 3 children) May 3, 1907. Alonzo Harr, New England Mine. Motor was backing a, trip of 26 cars, 15 of them loaded with slate. The 15 loads and 2 empties became detached from motor trip and started down grade to- wards No. 5 side track. Harr was sitting on the rear car, evidently rode the trip about 800 feet before attempting to get off and in so doing was so badly injured that he died in about two hours after arriving at the hospital. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Matza, Tony (Italian; 5 months exper; age 19; Single) June 1, 1907. Tony Matza, Hutchinson Mine, and his brother were working on No. 1 pillar off 10th right. They had fired a shot sometime in the morning leaving some draw slate along the right rib. While Tony was shoveling under this slate it gave way without warning and fell directly on him, killing him instantly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Roy, Charles M. (American; age 24; Single) June 14, 1907. Charles M.
