Andrew Uncose, Murray Mine, was passing through a room when some loose slate fell and struck him on the back. Peter Soloch, Chatham Shaft Mine, was going out of the mine by way of the cage. The miners who were with him got on to the cage and he signaled the engineer to hoist them up. He then got on the cage when someone said there was not room for him, so he jumped off and when the cage got about 2 feet from the bottom, going up, some- one called to him to jump on as there was room. He jumped onto the cage, but before he could straighten himself up he was caught between the timber at the bottom of the shaft and the cage. Additional information for Peter Soloch from page 147. March 22, 1905. Thos. Kisner, Murray Mine, was hauling coal and went in where a pillar was being drawn for a car. He hitched his mule to the front of the car and while waiting for the car to be finished he went in behind where they were working and was caught by a fall of slate. James Santa, Pennois Mine, was dropping a loaded car down from the tipple, jumped off car and ran a few feet in front of it to pull a block off the track. John Hawkins, Montana Mine, was employed as a trapper. He had given his door a pusn and it had only gone partly open. He nagged motor trip ahead. When the trip was nearly to the door the man who was riding on the front end of the trip called to him that the door was not open all the way but to let it go. But instead he caught hold of the door frame with his left hand and swung out along the door to try to open it the balance of the way when the corner of the front car struck the back of his head, crushing skull. Charlie Bookie, Anderson Mine, and the man working with him were instructed by the mine boss not to take any more coal from the stump they had been working and showed them where to begin cross- cutting the day before the accident. They disobeyed instructions and began taking more coal from the stump. They were pushing out a car when the place began to work heavily. Bookie was next to the pillar and a piece of slate fell on him, driving a pick he had in his hand through the jugular vein. Additional information for Charlie Bookie from page 147.
