H. Hardesty THOMAS HART BENTON STAGGERS - became a resident in Marion county in 1879, on the 19th of April, and in Fairmont is engaged in the practice and profession of law. He was born in Morgantown, Monongalia county, December 4, 1856, a son of Harvey Staggers, still of Morgantown, and Martha (Shriver) Staggers, now deceased. At Fairmont, Marion county, July 6, 1882, Rev. Thomas C. Miller of the public schools and Rev. L. L. Stewart of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Fairmont, officiating at the marriage rite, Thomas H. B. Staggers and Laura Janet Burns were wedded. She was born in Fairmont, October 12, 1862, a daughter of James J. and Margaret (Stewart) Burns, well-known and esteemed residents in Marion county at this date. The father of T. H. B. Staggers and two of his brothers were soldiers of the Federal army during the war between the States. One brother died at Atlanta, Georgia. Thomas H. B. Staggers, in addition to his professional duties, is United States Commissioner for West Virginia.
