Hardesty & Company Publishers, 1883 Mannington District, Marion County, West Virginia WILSON NAY - son of Oliver and Tryphena (Tetrick) Nay, was born on West Fork near Worthington, September 28, 1829. His father was born in this county, and died here December 24 1850, and his mother, also a native of this county, is living here at the age of 74 years. Both were descended from eminent pioneer families of this locality, her father, Joseph Tetrick, a soldier of the 1812 war, and his father, John Nay, serving under Washington for seven years in the army of 1776, and an intimate friend of the general. John Nay was born in Eastern Virginia, was one of the first settlers of this vicinity, locating on Tetrick's ridge, two miles from the present site of Worthington, and dying at the age of 92 years. Wilson Nay and Hannah B. Dragoo were united in marriage in Mannington, April 10, 1856, and have five children, born: Marcellus W., February 27, 1858; Lou D., April 12, 1859; Anna L., March 22, 1863; William Ulysses, April 21, 1865; Charles L., August 19, 1867. Marcellus W. lives in Mannington, the others at home. The wife of Mr. Nay was born October 14, 1829, in that part of Monongalia county, Virginia, now included in Marion county, West Virginia, a daughter of Ephraim and Elizabeth (Ballah) Dragoo. Her father, born in this county June 13, 1782, died here April 20, 1832, and her mother, born October 12, 1782, died October 20, 1852. They were married April 11, 1805. The grandinother of Mrs. Nay was captured and killed by Indians, as detailed in sketch of F. R. Ice, Lincoln district. Wilson Nay belonged to the State militia that engaged under Gen. Jones, in the endeavor to blow up the railroad bridge over the Monongahelia at Fairmont, during the civil war, and was a participant in the hot contest of that occasion, lasting from daylight until the surrender at 12 o'clock noon. Wilson Nay is extensively engaged in sawmilling and farming, owns a portable mill and has been in the business 12 years. He also owns 700 acres of good land in Wetzel county.
