Hardesty & Company Publishers, 1883 Mannington District, Marion County, West Virginia ROBERT PERRY FLOYD -- born July 10, 1831, on the farm Mannington district where he is now living, and the cultivation of which conjunction with stock-raising engrosses his time. He married, Mannington district, Elizabeth Roberts, who was born in Green county, Pennsylvania, July 28, 1831. The children of their wedlock were four, all now living in this district: [1] Letha Ellen, born February 6, 185?, married Sanford Hibbs, and they had two children; [2] Richard E., born September 22, 1855, married Nancy Campbell, and they have one child; [3] Henry J., born April 22, 1860, and [4] Charlie M., born September 10 1867. Robert P. Floyd enlisted in July, 1862 in Company H, 14th West Virginia Infantry, and received discharge June 13, 1865, at Parkersburg hospital where he was suffering from varicose vein troubles, caused by army service. With his regiment he participated it most of the battles fought under Grant and Sherman. His brother, John A. was a member of the 6th Virginia Infantry, known as the "Railroad Guards." Henry Troutman Floyd, father of Robert P., was born in the Shenandoah Valley, June 29, 1798 settled in this county in 1829, and died December 28, 1879. The mother of Robert P., Nancy Cunningham before her marriage, was born October 9, 1800, and living. Richard and Sarah (Taylor) Roberts, parents of Mrs. Floyd, were born in Greene county, Pennsylvania, the former in 1808, and the latter on the 18th of September, 1810. They made their home in this county in 1834. When Mr. Floyd's father settled in what is now Marion county, there were few families here, not more than eight, and the wilderness about him was infested with wild beasts. Mr. Floyd's grandfather was a soldier under Washington, and after participating in many battles was captured by the Hessians. While serving them as teamster he made his escape, and found his way back home, whence he again entered the Continental army, and served till the war closed. He then settled in the Shenandoah valley, whence he moved into the Glade mountains, beyond Grafton, Taylor county, (now) West Virginia, from there into that part of Monongalia county now Marion, where he died.
