Hardesty & Company Publishers, 1883 Mannington District, Marion County, West Virginia JOSHUA BAKER - is engaged in farming and stock-raising, living on and owning a farm of 175 acres, on Prices run, where for twenty years he has been clearing the land and putting it in cultivation. He was born June 9, 1833, in what is now Mannington district, and his parents, Nicholas and Juda (Kendall) Baker, were born in this locality also. His father's father was a native of Denmark, who was among the pioneers of this neighborhood, after some years went to Ohio, and then returned to Marion county, and here died. The wife of Joshua Baker was Sarah Catherine, daughter of Henry T. and Catherine (Cunningham) Floyd, whose record is given with that of R. P. Floyd, in this district's sketches. She was born near Mannington, April 22, 1837, married Joshua Baker March 13, 1854, and died March 11, 1871, having been the mother of: Eliza E., born June 30, 1856, lives on Dents run, this county; Nicholas C., November 30, 1857, died April 8, 1878; Henry E., June 5, 1860, lives at home; Juda, July 17, 1862, lives in this district; Nancy D., April 8, 1864, died October 10, 1880; Ezra W., May 8, 1866, and Ella May, July 26, 1868, live at home.
