Otto Krung & Peter Steltz, Yuma Mine, were standing too close to a shot that blew out, causing severe burns from which they died. Two men were non-fatally burned in this accident. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Grover, Edward M. (American; 5 yrs exper; age 30; Married; 3 Children) March 4, 1907. Edward M. Grover, Rex Mine, and another miner were mining coal on each side of a wedge shaped body near a parting where a room turned off the main entry and were both preparing a shot. Ar- mentrout finished his first lit the squib and came around the point of coal at the parting and warned Grover, who continued to prepare his shot. The force of Armentrout's shot blew the coal on the opposite side, striking Grover in the head breaking his neck. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Elkins, Edward (American; 2 yrs exper; age 29; Married; 1 Child) May 14, 1907. Edward Elkins, Logan No. 1 Mine, was driving a string team sitting on the front car. When about 150 feet from the the drift mouth he loosened the mules from the cars and jumped in front of the cars, stumbled and fell on the track, the front car running over him, causing instant death. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Johnson, J. D. (Negro; age 42; Married) June 21, 1907. J. D. Johnson, Island Creek Mine No. 2, was following close behind the driver who was taking a car into his room and was caught by a fall of slate.
