From all appearances he had fired a shot and commenced to load a car when the slate fell. Two posts had been set under this loose piece, but near one edge and the shot loosened the other edge. They had just fired a shot and after removing the coal they went to work under the slate, which had belen loosened by the shot without first trying to take it down or prop it. His father was injured by this same fall.
