Harrison County, Page 146 Malurchok, Andy Jr. Oct. 26, 1903. Andy Malurchok, Jr., Pooz Mine, was lying on his side making an under-cut when a portion of loose coal fell on him. His father was with him and should have cautioned him not to go under the loose coal. Oct. 29, 1903. Charles E. Starr, Superintendent at the Two Lick Mine, was having a car dropped down the incline when sheave wheel at the top of the incline broke loose from its fastenings, allowing the car to run down the incline at a high rate of speed, which gave Starr no time to get out of the way of the rope, which caught his legs, breaking and crushing them. At the time of the accident he was assisting to load box cars and was standing on bars to which aprons are attached. He called for one more dump to finish a car and when basket was lowered he was caught between basket and bars. Robert Ilderton, Pinnickinnick Mine, was a practical miner and at the time of the accident he was mining coal in 3rd right heading off main entry. He was trimming down roof coal near the face when a small amount of head coal and slate fell, crushing him. John Vernosky, Interstate Mine, was seated on the machine board in room No. 15, 3rd left heading, operating the machine when a piece of slate weighing between 300 and 400 lbs. fell on his shoulders and head. He knew the roof was unsafe, but said it would stay up until he got the place cut.
