Cunningham, son of Thomas and Catharine (Runnyan) Cunningham, was born in Lewis county, July 16, 1819. He came to Braxton county in 1840, and commenced working by the month, making brick for the first courthouse. He then engaged in farming and lumbering, in which business he engaged for many years. On Sept. 11, 1845, he married Mary C., daughter of Benjamin L. and Jane (Cutlip) Boggs. Following are names of their children: Catharine Jane (deceased), Benjamin F., Susan L., Mary M., Rebecca L., Enos (died in infancy), Caroline, Thomas H. Mr. Cunningham served two terms as Justice of the Peace before the Civil war.
