In politics he is a Democrat; he is an Odd Fellow and belongs to no church, although a believer in religion. He is noted for his inventive ability, and is the inventor of a platting, drafting and self-computing machine; a transit compass, and a telemeter for computing distances between distant objects, such as ships at sea or from one mountain to another. His district map of Barbour County was constantly consulted as the highest authority in compiling this history of Barbour.
