Children, Charles Burdell and William Ashford. He is a member of the M. E. Church, South, a farmer and stock raiser residing near Elk City. He served three years in the Confederate army, and had two brothers in the service, Demetrius, who died at Richmond, and Samuel, who was honorably discharged. He owns 262 acres of improved land, and a fine residence. His sons died of diphtheria within a week of each other. The finest monument in the State marks their grave. The monument weighs 40,000 pounds and cost $3450. The Dickenson ancestry is Dutch. The great grandfather of the subject of this sketch came from Holland and settled in Virginia, and his son, Samuel Dickenson, was born and died in Pendleton County.
