ALFRED ACKERMAN, aged 88, a pionner sailing master of the Great Lakes, died at his home near Kenosha last week Wednesday. CAPT. ACKERMAN was a familiar figure on Lake Michigan forty years ago. It was he that built the Rouse Simmons, the "Christmas tree ship" that foundered with all hands last fall. He sailed her until he retired in 1888.
