H. ELIASON KILLED. A Well Known Lake Captain and Resident of Sawyer Meets Death By Falling Upon a Saw, While Cutting Timber for His Vessel. One of the worst accidents that has ever occurred in this vicinity, happened at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at Larson & Olson's portable sawmill at Hainesville, when CAPT. HANS ELIASON fell upon the cir- cular saw, cutting him from the toes of his right foot to a point several inches above the hip causing almost instant death. CAPT. ELIASON, who owns the schooner Industry, had been engaged in making some necessary repairs to the craft, and had purchased several logs at Hainesville to cut up into timber to use in the repair work on the vessel. The day on which the fatal accident occurred he went to Haines- ville to have the timber sawed at Larson & Olson's portable mill. The logs had been cut into planks, and the planks were being edged, when MR. ELIASON went to move one of the boards away from the saw with his foot. The move was a fatal one for the gentleman and cost him his life. The saw caught the end of his life. The saw caught the end of his right foot, and having on a heavy overshoe, it threw him forward on- to the saw and instantly cut a deep and ragged gash the entire length of his leg, deep into his thigh and side. The accident occurred within a few seconds, and the men working with MR. ELIASON had no time to prevent it, and so horrible had been the nature of the accident that they could scarcely realize what had happened when they saw him lying alongside of the saw; mangled and covered with blood. He was supported upon the arms of his companions, and lived for a period of about five min- utes, uttering a few words before death claimed him. The body was taken to the home of MIKE ELIASON, a brother of the deceased, who resides at Hainesville, and from whose home the funeral is to be held this Friday afternoon, Rev. HAGELAND conducting the services. HANS ELAISON was about 65 years of age, and had been a resident of Door county for twenty or more years, at one time own- ing a large farm at Hainesville. He came to Sawyer about six years ago, and having purchased the schooner Industry engaged in the lumber carrying traffic and miscel- laneous freighting between this city and Menominee and nearby ports. He was the owner of considerable property in the city, and had just recently erected a store build- ing on Maple Ave. He is survived by his wife, and three children, one son, ELIAS, and two daughters, MRS. ANNA HANSON and MISS ELLEN ELIASON, also by a number of step-children. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
