Injured Six Weeks Ago on Stone Barge Adriatic, Dies in Manitowoc Hospital. ALBERT BRAUNSDORF died in a Manitowoc hospital last Saturday from injuries received on August 27, the remains being brought to his home in this city and the funeral held on Wednesday afternoon from the German Lutheran church in Sawyer, Rev. SCHUMANN conducting the services. Interment was in the Clay Banks cemetery. ALBERT BRAUNSDORF was captain of the stone barge Adriatic of the Leathem & Smith fleet and one (sic) the night of August 27th the craft caught fire while at the dock in Manitowoc. As he came on deck the big derrick boom, weighing several tons, fell from the spar, and striking CAPT. BRAUNSDORF, pinned him to the deck. He sustained a fracture of the skull, and the bones in one leg were completely crushed. Since that date he had been in the Manitowoc hospital, making a fight for his life. He was unconscious part of the time, and his condition such that amputation of the limb was impossible. His con- dition had improved somewhat last week, and fearing further delay he was placed under an anesthetic and the limb amputated. He did not regain conciousness, dying under the anesthetic. CAPTAIN ALBERT BRAUNSDORF was born in the town of Clay Banks June 11, 1885, being 35 years of age at the time of his death. He had been a resident of Door county since birth, and followed the water since boyhood, and was well known in many ports along Lake Michigan and Green Bay. In 1910 he was united in marriage and is survived by his wife and a 7-year-old daughter, also his parents and five brothers and five sisters. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
