Sheriff AL OSMUSON took a long trip to Kansas City, Missouri, for $8 a day and $115 expenses, according to Justice REYNOLDS. He returned Saturday with scarcely time to turn around and come back, however, and was accompanied by a certain JOHN A. McDERMOTT, cook for the Santa Fe R. R., who has been wanted for desertion of his wife and three small children on Washing- ton Island. McDERMOTT was arraigned before Justice REYNOLDS Tuesday morning, after a sojourn in the county jail until his wife could appear on the scene, and was sentenced to pay the costs of the case and settle the matter according to the dictates of his "better half." Mrs. McDERMOTT finally decided that instead of pressing the charge, she would consider taking alimony and a divorce. All parties agreed, the case was dismissed. McDERMOTT even offered to take his family back to Kansas City, but he awaits his wife's decision while living on probation for six months. He is getting "good money," he says, on the road. ==========================================================================
