When in front of Dousman's elevator, the sleighs broke through the ice. Mr. L. fell upon the ice, stunning him for a few minutes, and Mr. Jones, who was also present, was unable to render any as- sistance, and the horses were drawn back into the hole by the weight of the sleighs, and drowned. Most of the freight was saved in a damaged condition, but a portion was lost. The freight belonged to Tarleton Jones. Mr. L. is a poor man, and this is a very severe loss for him. It was a splendid span of horses, well used to ice travelling, and Mr. L. prided himself on his skill in navigating the ice. ==========================================================================
