On this fifteenth day of May 1820 personally appeared before me David Boyd One of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of said County Wil- liam Lighthall, late a Lieutenant in Revolu- tionary War & Pensioner under the Act of the 10th of March 1818 & the act of the ** of May 1820 aged sixty four past years resident in the county of Schenectady, who first being duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows: in the year 1777, Capt Wolcots Company to c Warner's Regt ****** Continental troops, and continued until the Regiment was disbanded in the year 1781 - is a pensioner ******* 21 March 1818. No of Certificate -866- And I do solomnly swear that I was a resident of the United States on the eighteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner whatever, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled "an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war," passed on the eighteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property of securities , contracts, or debts due to me; nor have I any income, other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. Fonda, a clerk of the county of Schenectady, do hereby certify that the foregoing oath and the schedule thereto annexed are truly copied from the record, of the said court; and I do further certify, that it is the opinion of the said court, that the total amount in value of property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule, is thirty dollars and -- cents. William Lighthall formerly a Lieutenant in the service of the United States now a resident of the City and County of Schenectady in the State of New York being duly sworn deposeth and saith, that on the Twelfth Day of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand and Seven Hundred Seventy Six he was enlisted by Lieut Wal- ter Swits and was attached to a Company of New York State Rangers commanded by Captain John A. Bradt - the Seventh Day of March 1777 he enlisted under the said Lieutenant Walter Swits to serve dur- ing the war - that he was attached to Captain Giles Woolcotts Company in a Regiment on the Continental establishment commanded by Colonel Seth Warner - that he remained attached to said Company and Regiment, as a Sergeant untill the Fourteenth Day of November 1778 - when he was promoted to the rank of Ensign in said Regiment and received his Commission as such - That in the Year 1779 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in said Regiment and was on active service as such untill sometime in the month of October 1780 - when at Fort George in the State of New York he was captured, and =========================================================================== [image 5] and taken to the Province of Canada, where he remained a prisoner of war untill the month of November 1782, when he was parol- led and returned home, to remain untill he was exchanged or otherwise ordered - That he was not exchanged, but remained on Pa- role untill the Army of the United States, was disbanded in the Year 1783 after the close of the war - That his accounts were settled *** finally paid by a Mr. John Peirce who was the Pay Master of the United States Ar- my - sometime in the month of May in the Year 1784 - All of which will probably appear by vouchers of which were at that time lodged in the War or other Departments of government-- This Deponent further says that he served in the War of the Revolution on the Conti- nental establishment, as before stated, that he is by reason of his reduced circum- stances in life in need of assistance from his country for support, and he further says that he has never had any Pension allowed him for his services a- foresaid by the Laws of the United States He further says that he is now about Sixty two Years of age -- Sworn before me this William Lighthall 31st Day of March 1818 ===========================================================================
