Brown Clerk Book A, Vol 2, Page 195 ============================================ Dead Letter to Parish and Agent 15th June 1843 ---------------- Same Nov 22d 1843 =========================================================================== [image 3] State of Michigan County of Macomb On the twenty first day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven personally appeared before me Samuel Asgard associate judge of circuit cort Macomb County Deborah Allen a resident of the County of Macomb in the said State of Michigan, and of the Town of Bruse in said County aged Seventy Nine years; Who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 4, 1836: That she is the widow of Parmerly Allen who was a Captain of a company of rangers raised by the State of Vermont for the defence of the frontier during the years 1777, 1778, 1779, and 1780, as will appear from the various commissions hereunto annexed She further declares that according to the best of her belief her Said Husband Parmely Allen entered in the revolutionary ser- vice as soon as the year 1776 and continued in the service of the United States in the Revolutionary War until about the close thereof - She further declares that she was married to the Said Parmerly Allen on the Eighteenth day of December in the year one thousand and seven hundred and seventy seven at the Town of Pa**** in the State of Vermont that her husband the aforesaid Parmerly Allen died on the tenth day of February in the year 1806 in the County of Washington in the State of New York, as that she has remained a widow since that period during the whole of the said period of time as will now fully appear by reference to the proof hereunto annexed - Deborah Allen Sworn and subscribed on this day and year above written before Samuel Asford =========================================================================== [image 4] Willink P.O. Erie Co., N.Y. June 29, 1838 Sir Enclosed are papers in case of Deborah Allen on her application for a pension under the act July 4, 1836. From the Documentary evidence furnished I supposed it was not necessary to get any other proof of the husband's services. The applicant resides now in Macomb County, Michigan but many of her children reside here and she has been obliged to send to ** Cayuga County of this State in order to perfect the proof. If the papers are ****** in any particular I will thank you to com- municate to me immediatly upon the Sub- ject and especially if it will not be tax- ing you too much I should like to know the particulars of the defect if any so that it may be remidied. I apprehend ****ever that it presents a very clear and satisfactory case under the law aforesaid to His Hon. M. Boylan a Justice of the Peace in and for the County afore said on the twelth day of February in the year One-thousand and eight hundred and thirty nine personally appeared Hester Welch to me personally known - who being first by me duly sworn according to law doth depose and say that she is now Seventy eight years of age that he maiden name was Hester Burroughs and that she is the sister of Deborah Allen of the County of Macomb in the State of Michigan an applicant for a pension under the act of July 4, 1836, as the widow of Parmelee Allen deceased. She further saith that at the time of the invasion of the State of New York by Gen. Burgoyne she lived together with her father and her said sister Deborah Allen in the town of Whitehall County of Washington and State of New York. That upon the app- roach of Burgoynes army to that place she the deponent together with her said sister now Deborah Allen removed temporarily to the Town of Pawlet Rutland County State of Vermont - That while there her said sister Deborah was married to Parmelee Allen then a commissioned officer. That she this deponent was present at the marriage and that it took place as near as she can reccol- lect and as she believes in the month of November in the year 1777. That the marriage ceremony was performed by a Justice of the Peace whose name deponent does not now reccollect. That after the marriage of the said Deborah to Parmelee Allen she this deponent resi- ded for a number of years in the same neighbour- hood with them in the County of Washington that while they lived together as neighbours =========================================================================== [image 6] several children of the said Paremlee and Deborah were born. The oldes of which was Ethan Allen that the age of the said Ethan is known to this deponent and that he is now sixty years of age. That William Allen the next child of the said Deborah and Parmelee Allen is nearly fifty eight years of age that Parmelee Allen the next child is fifty five years old - James Allen the next child is fifty two years old and the said deponent further saith that she is personally knowing of the said Deborah and Parmelee Allen living together as man and wife for the space of twelve years after their said marriage and she believes they thus continued until the day of his death Hester Welch [her signature] Sworn to and subscribed this 12th day of February in the year one thousand and Eight hundred and thirty nine Before me Aaron H. I do hereby Certify that I am per- sonally acquainted with the above named Hester Welch and she the said deponent is a person of veracity, and that full credit ought to be given to her Statements - Dated Febr'y 12th 1839 Aaron H. Boylan was a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, duly qualified, at the date of the above affidavit, and that his signature to the Jurat of the above affidavit, and to the above certificate is genuine. On this 31st day of De- cember in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine personally appeared before me Abner F. Nutting a Justice of the Peace of the said County Ethan Allen who being first by me duly sworn deposeth and saith that he is the oldest child of Deborah Allen widow of Captain Parmalee Allen deceased a revolutionary Soldier who is an applicant for a Pension. That this deponent is now nearly sixty one years of age. That he lived with his said parents until he was twenty one years of age and that after the deceasing of his said Father the said Deborah Allen his mother made her home at the house of deponent for a number of years until about five or six years ago. That this deponent is confident that none of the children of the said Parmalee and Deborah Allen were baptized in their infancy and deponent was always told by his parents that he never was baptized. That they lived in the County of Washington and State of New York after their marriage except a few of the first ****** thereafter until the day of his fathers death as deponent always understood from them and knows to be true since his rem- membrances. That this deponent is confident that no County records were kept by either of his parents as he never saw any during the whole time they lived with Deponent and deponent with them - And this deponent further says he always understood that his said parents were married in Vermont where his mother and her family had temporarily removed in consequence of the invasion of Burgoyne - Ethan Allen [his signature] Sworn to and subscribed this thirty first day of December 1839 Before me - A.
