The father came to Tennessee in his tenth year, and was a farmer of this county. The grandfather was a soldier of the Revolu- tion. The mother was born December 29, 1788, the daughter of CALEB SMITH, an Englishman and a pioneer farmer of East Tennessee. The parents were Baptists. Our subject was reared near his present home with country advantages, and has always been devoted to agriculture on an extensive scale. December 15, 1836, he married ELIZABETH, a daughter of DAVID ROLLER. They have reared many adopted children. He and his wife are highly respected and esteemed people. ===========================================================================
