Hubbard, 70, retired superintendent of the Milwaukee lighthouse district and Great Lakes captain, died Sunday following an operation. Captain Hubbard, a native of Toledo, Ohio, retired last Feb. 1 after 44 years in the lighthouse service, 17 as head of the twelfth district. He became ill while on a leis- surely lake cruise to Bay City, Mich. When 20 years old he took command of a tug to become the youngest commissioned skipper on the Great Lakes. The captain, a past president of the International Ship Mas- ter's association, is survived by his widow. ===========================================================================
