CALDER, presi- dent and general manager of the Toledo Shipbuilding company, who died last Friday, took place yesterday afternoon and was attended by a large number of friends, including many marine men. MR. CALDER, who was sixty-seven years old at his demise, began his career as an oiler on the lakes, later on being promoted to engineer. He was chief on several lake steamers, including the Inter Ocean and Parks Foster, the latter being the last one he served on. He came ashore in 1891 and was made fleet engineer for M. A. Hanna & Co. at Cleveland. He superintended the construction of the ships of the Menominee fleet, including the Norman, German, Britain, Grecian and Roman. Later on MR. CALDER went to the Detroit Shipbuilding company, and after ten years there he went to the Toledo Shipbuilding company. Besides his widow, he leaves a daughter, MRS. EDWARD D. THORNTON of Toledo. ===========================================================================
