W. STEEL, a former resident of Cleveland, died suddenly in Chicago on Sunday last, and his remains were brought to this city for burial in Woodland avenue cemetery. The funeral, which took place on Wednesday, was conducted by the Oriental Commandery, Knights Templar, of which ancient and honorable body CAPTAIN STEEL had long been a brother. CAPTAIN STEEL, who was about 62 years of age, was a well known and popular lake captain, and was master of the propeller, New England, of the People's line, in 1851, plying between Detroit, Cleveland and Sandusky. He brought out the Galena, built by L. MOSES, in 1857, under the management of SHELDEN PEAS, of the Central Line of Buffalo, after which he retired from the lakes and moved to Chicago about 1862, where he was soon appointed harbor master, which position he filled to the satisfaction of all for seven years. Up to the time of his death CAPTAIN STEEL had the confidence and respect of all who knew him, and his death will be much regretted. ===========================================================================
