CRAFORD LARGE died at Ashtabula last week. He was one of the old time vessel masters, but had not sailed for many years. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amherstburg (Ontario, Can.)Echo November 1, 1907 CAPT. CRAWFORD LARGE, a lifelong resident of Ashtabula and one of the early day vessel masters of the lakes, was found dead in the office of the Barber Manufacturing Co. plant at Ashtabula, where he was employed as night watchman. CAPT. LARGE was master of the schooner Atlas in 1853 when the first iron ore was brought to Lake Erie, and he brought down one of the first two cargoes, his being 150 tons and the first taken to the port of Erie. ================================================================================ =
