He was master of the Schr. Hunter (Oswego) and while enter- ing the mouth of the St. Lawrence, on the evening of the 14th inst., he was unfortu- nately knocked overboard by the fore-boom and perished. The exertions of the crew to save him proved fruitless. CAPT. KERR was a native of Scotland, about 24 years of age and had resided in this vil- lage about five years. His many amiable and good qualities had gained him the friendship of all who had tested his virtues. His modest and unassuming manners prevented his real worth being extensively known, but like the lonely flower of his native wilds which is.. ...."doom'd to blush unseen "And waste its fragrance on a desert air," his real worth was only known to those who were intimately acquainted with him. The Oswego Lodge, of which he was a member, ex- pressed their regret for his loss by wearing the usual badges of mourning and forming a procession, on Sunday last, in which they proceeded to the place of worship, where an appropriate sermon was delivered by the Rev. Mr. Williams. He had no relative in this country to deplore his premature exit, yet his fate was not unlamented. ===============================================================================
