              VETERAN SKIPPER DEAD.
              
              Word was received here yesterday that CAPT. W. H. BRIDGES,
            retired veteran sailing master, died at Syracuse Monday.
            He sailed vessels in the Davidson fleet for years, and the
            last boat he commanded was the schooner Allegheny.
