Perry, wife of the chief clerk of the municipal court, was severely burned in an effort to save her. Mrs. Perry, who lives on the third floor, vainly tried to reach her mother who lived in the basement. Shrieking hysterically she brushed past two policemen and dashed into the blazing kitchen only to be driven back by the flames, Lieutenant Jeremiah Flynn of Engine F, Com- pany 55, moved by Mrs. Perry's pathetic pleadings to save her mother, ordered the firemen to turn their hose on him and protected by showers of water, groped in the flaming house until he found the charred body, and carried it to the street. He was slightly burned. A bull dog, Major, a pet in the household whose barking gave the alarm was burned to death. ===========================================================================
