Vols, On this 9th day of February, 1883 before me personally appeared George Holdridge who being by me first duly sworn deposes & says in reference to the aforesaid claim - That he is by occupation a farmer & resides in the town of Ossian, Livingston Co., N.Y., & that his post office address is Canaseraga, Allegany Co., N.Y. & that he has no interest direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim. That he has known the said Isaac H. That deponent worked with him in the fields nearly every day & knew him intimately - that at that time & to the time of his leaving deponents place to go to the army the said Isaac H. Witherill was a strong, hardy & robust man, free from any disease & able to do a full days work every day - That deponent again saw said Isaac H. Witherill immediately after his return from the army in July 1865 & that he worked for deponent that summer & fall as a farm laborer. That upon his return from the army at the time aforesaid said Isaac H. Witherill appeared to be broken down in health & complained of constant headache caused by a wound in the head received while in the army. That he could not stand much work & that he appeared to be sick & continually ailing - That in each & every year since 1865 worked with said Witherill & had him work for deponent & has seen him work for neighbors & that his sickness & impaired ability has continued in each & every year since 1865 to the presnt time. That in 1868 or 1869 deponent remembers that said Witherill was sick pretty much all winter with paralysis so as to be unable to do anything - Deponent further says, that by reason of said sickness said Isaac H. Witherill has lost in each & every year since his return from the army in 1865 to the present time on an average at least half his time & has not been able in the time aforesaid or any part thereof to do more than half a mans work - Deponent further says that he knows the above facts from his personal knowledge from seeing said Witherell & working with him as aforesaid. George C. Holdridge. Sworn & Subscribed before me on the day & year first above written & I hereby certify that the affiant is well known to me as a person of good credit & standing & entitled to full credit as a witness that the foregoing affidavit was read over to him upon signing & that I have no interest in the prosecution of this claim & that my certificate as a Notary Public is on file in the Pension Office - Wm C.
