WILLIAM T. PEASE It is with unaffected sorrow that we announce the death of CAPT. WILLIAM T. PEASE which occurred about seven o'clock Saturday morning, at his resi- dence in this city, after an illness of a week's duration. WILLIAM T. PEASE was born in Derby, Connecticut, in September, 1803, and was in the seventy-third year of his age. In 1817 he came to Buffalo and early in life took to the lakes, and became one of the most accomplished navigators of the time. He commanded some of the finest steamers on our waters and became universally popular while in command of the splendid steamer, Queen City and still later the City of Buffalo, one of the two most magnifi- cent vessels ever built in this part of the world. Still later he commanded the propeller Fountain City, and the Galena, but for the past ten or twelve years he has discharged the duties of U.S. Local Inspector of steam vessels, faithfully and well. CAPT. PEASE was a gentleman by instinct and one of the most genial of men. But few men who were cotemporary with him on the lakes could lay claim to one-half his popularity, and the good will and high regard of all who knew him he commanded to the last. Deceased was a brother of MR. SHELDON PEASE, formerly of this city and now of New York, and our well known citizen MR. JOHN PEASE. He leaves a wife, and three children, MRS. WM. PEASE, MRS. H. T. APPLEBY and MRS. R. H. HEBARD. The funeral will take place at three o'clock this afternoon, from the family residence, No. 253 Allen street. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
