McLEOD DEAD CAPT. GEORGE McLEOD, one of the best known and oldest captains on the lakes, died Sunday morning at his home, No. 1149 Niagara Street. He was born in New London, Prince Edward's Isle, in 1836. At the age of 14 years he took to the sea, sailing on ocean ships until 1856, when he came to the Great Lakes. CAPT. McLEOD commanded many ships and in 1879 he became connected with the underwriting firm of Smith, Davis & Co., remaining with them until the time of his death. He was on the steamer Hutch- inson when that vessel came down the lakes almost in the middle of winter three years ago. He was the third vice president of the Masonic Association and a member of Erie Lodge F. & A. M.; Lake Erie Commandery, Knights Templar and other fraternal organizations. He is survived by his wife and three children, MRS. THOMAS O'BRIEN, EDWARD J. McLEOD and ELLEN KENNEDY of this city. The funeral will take place to- morrow afternoon under the auspices of Lake Erie Commandery.
