McGREEVY CAPT. FRANK P. McGREEVY, who went down with his ship and crew, lived at no. 236 West Utica Street, this city. He had not been in Buffalo since the 10th of April, when he went away to take charge of the Olive Jeannette. He leaves a widow, MRS. MARGARET McGREEVY, three daughters, MRS. A. F. HAZEN, of New York City, MRS. J. M. MILLER of Oklahoma, and MISS FRANCES M. McGREEVY of Buffalo; the captain also leaves three sons, FRED J., FRANK J., and G. OSWALD McGREEVY, all of Buffalo. CAPT. McGREEVY has sailed the lakes all his life and for the past two seasons commanded the Olive Jeannette. His vessel touched only at Ohio and Pennsylvania ports, which accounts for his absence from Buffalo. He was one of the best-known and most popular captains on the Great Lakes. His vessel was in the ore-carrying trade and was owned W. A. Hawgood & Co. of Cleveland. The Courier reporter brought the news to the family shortly after midnight. A son and daughter were seen, to whom the intelligence was imparted. They were too stunned to realize the disaster. Shortly be- fore the reporter's arrival the family received a telegram from W. A. Hawgood of Cleveland stating that he had heard nothing of the vessel. The captain was about 50 years old. Previous to his taking charge of the Olive Jeannette he was engaged for eleven years with the Tona- wanda Iron & Steel Company. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
