JOHN GALLAGHER, known in Buffalo marine circles as a lake captain fifteen years ago, died last night at his home, 1975 Niagara Street. He was 71 years old. He had been ill for the last six weeks. Before his illness, he was employed as a special policeman by the American Radiator Company. He suffered several strokes. CAPT. GALLAGHER was born in Hollywood, Ireland, and came to this country 66 years ago. After completing his school- ing, he obtained employment on the lake ships, and worked his way to the posi- tion of captain. Surviving are his wife, MAGDALENA MERKLE, and one son, JOHN J. of St. Catherines, Ont., and two daughters, MRS. THOMAS McPHERSON of Freeport, Ill., and MISS ALICE M. GALLAGHER of Buffalo. Funeral services will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, where CAPT. GALLAGHER was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Rosary Society. The time of the funeral has not been de- cided upon. Burial will be in Mt.
