CRIQUI DEAD Veteran Lake Captain and Resident of Buffalo for 73 Years Passes Away. JOSEPH J. CRIQUI, a veteran lake captain and a resident of Buffalo for 73 years, died at the General Hospital at 9:30 last night of injuries received from falling off a wagon on Delaware avenue last Monday. MR. CRIQUI was born in Buffalo in 1831, and when 15 years old went on the lakes as a cabin boy. During the gold fever of 1849 he went to California and acquired mining claims there. He sold his claims after a few years and re- turned to Buffalo. He then went on the lakes as a captain, and for 50 years was noted for his skill in handling large boats. He had few accidents and was connected at various times with the old Evans lines, the Western Transit Company and the Union Steamboat Company. MR. CRIQUI is survived by his wife and son, CHARLES A.
