The CHAPIN lineage is Puritan. SAMUEL CHAPIN of Massachusetts Colony took the freeman's oath in Boston in 1641 and removed to Springfield, Mass. JAPHET CHAPIN, son of SAMUEL, was in the great Indian fight at Twiner's Falls on the 19th of May, 1676. SAMUEL CHAPIN (2d), son of Japhet, had a son, Caleb CHAPIN, who was killed in the French War.
