Daily Press Wednesday, January 25, 1939 VETERAN LAKE CAPTAIN DIES AFTER FALL. Dunkirk - (AP) - Captain JAMES J. WARD, 83, who sailed on the Great Lakes for 52 years without an accident, died last night of injuries received when he broke his hip in a fall over a chair.
