              VETERAN LAKE CAPTAIN 
                DIES AFTER FALL.
                
              Dunkirk - (AP) - Captain JAMES J. WARD,
            83, who sailed on the Great Lakes for 52
            years without an accident, died last night
            of injuries received when he broke his hip
            in a fall over a chair.
              Before he died, Captain WARD declared:
            "I sailed on the Great Lakes for more than
            50 years, many times working high up on
            masts during the worst weather imaginable,
            but it remained for a fall over a chair to
            cause me serious injury."
