Fordyce Former Sheriff and Assemblyman Dies George S. Fordyce, 76, leading citizen and merchant of Union Springs, and a Re- publican political leader in Ca- yuga County during his life- time, died this morning at his home in Union Springs. He had been in poor health for some time. He was born in Scipio Center but had lived the greater portion of his life in Union Springs where he had conducted a coal and grain business for 57 years. From the days of youth he was a staunch Republican and had been honored with election to the Board of Supervisors, the State Assembly in Albany and had served as sheriff during Old Home Week days in Auburn back in 1906. He was consulted in the councils of the Republican Party and had served as delegates in many political conventions, county and state. Mr. Fordyce was a member of Warren Lodge of Masons, in Union Springs and a year ago was honored with insignia of the grand lodge in recognition of 50 years membership in the order. He was also a member of the Masonic order and an active member of Auburn Lodge of Elks. Always interested in the ad- vancement of his home village he was behind all improvements as a member of the village Board of Trade. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret R. Fordyce; a son, Ben- jamin Fordyce. the funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. Dr. H. H. Barstow will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. ===========================================================================
