Witherell of Westons Passes At Olean Hospital Frank A. Witherell, Promised Land Road, Westons, died Mar. 14 at the Olean General Hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 19. Mr. Witherell was born at Beaver Valley, Pa., on May 4, 1875, a son of William B. and Ellen Pulver Witherell. He was married to the former Clara J. Hunter at Olean July 4, 1895. Mrs. Witherell died Aug. 12, 1957. He had resided on the Promised Land Road for the past forty-three years. A passenger train conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad, he retired in 1940 after 50 years of service. He was a member of various Masonic bodies in this area including Olean Lodge 252, Free and accepted Masons, the Scotish Rite Bodies of Olean, the Buffalo and Coudersport consistories and an honorary member of the Fort- ville Lodge No. 57* F A M. Mr. Witherell had been awarded the Masonic Meritorious Service Medal and was elevated to the 33rd Degree of Masonry at Detroit, Michigan in September 1955. In addition he was a member of the First Methodist church of Olean and the Pennsylvania Railroad Veterans Association. He is survived by a son, James F. Witherell, Promised Land Rd.; two daughters, Mrs. S. D. (Agnes) Bur- dick, Corning; and Mrs. R. E. (Dorothy) Pettengill, Scranton, Pa.; 7 grand- children and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gus B. Witherell, Lakewood, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Halwig Funeral Home. A Masonic memorial service under the direction of Olean Lodge 252 F & A M was conducted Mar. 15. It was attended by members of the Portville Lodge No. 579 F & A M and other area lodges. Funeral services were held on Mar. 16 at the funeral home. The Rev. Leonard F. Ives, pastor of First Methodist church officated and burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Members of Hannah Shrine No. 36, Order of the White Shrine, paid their respects Thursday. The casket bearers were: Henry E. Hall, Gustav S. Palmquist, Clyde W. Guild, Fred S. Korb, Clyde D. Reynolds and Robert A. Lowe. ===========================================================================
