LEWIS Sounded Warning and Although Running at Slow Rate Was Unable to Avoid Accident on Jefferson Avenue DAVID SIDNEY, a lake captain, residing at 462 Fifth street, was run down by an automobile at Jefferson and Baldwin avenues yesterday morning receiving injuries from which he died at St. Mary's hospital. Capt. SIDNEY alighted from a Jefferson avenue car when the machine operated by WILLIAM LEWIS of *** Sixth street, struck him. LEWIS was driving the machine at a slow rate of speed and blew his horn but the man failed to hear the warning and was unable to avoid him as several trucks were on his side of the road. Capt. SIDNEY was given temporary aid by Dr. H. E. BEVINGTON, of 198 Baldwin avenue, and was later taken to St. Mary's hospital in the Detroit ambulance. Capt. SIDNEY was born in Ireland and had been on the lakes since he was fourteen years of age. Of late years he was captain of M. B. MILL'S yacht Cynthia and when Mr. MILLS left the city several years ago he pensioned him. On July 17, Capt. SIDNEY was hired by ALBERT H. SCHMIDT to run his yacht, the Kaloah, and he was on his way to that boat yesterday when he was run down by the automobile. He is survived by a widow. ===========================================================================
