McKERCHEY, Dies JOHN McKERCHEY, former lake captain, for the last 15 years a city employe, stationed at fire engine house no. 31, Cobb place and West Grand boulevard, died Sunday. He was 79 years old. His home was at 2290 Edison avenue. Captain McKERCHEY became a fire department em- ploye after more than 40 years service on the Great Lakes. Born in Saulte Ste. Marie, he shipped when a young man. He became prominent in marine circles both as pilot and shipmaster, holding captain's papers many years before his retirement. He was a resident of Detroit for 55 years, hav- ing moved here shortly after his first voyage, and was a charter member of Amity lodge, No. 335, I.O.O.F. He is survived by his son, JOHN M. McKERCHEY, Detroit business man, and a daughter, Mrs. CHARLOTTE J. DEVILLE. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the residence. ===========================================================================
