McCALLUM DEAD Detroit, Sept. 13 - CAPTAIN JOHN S. McCALLUM, widely known all over the lakes, died at his home early this morning after a long illness from stomach troubles and other complications. He was 39 years old and began with the Detroit and Cleveland line at the age of 13 as cabin boy and worked up through all posi- tions until he was compelled to retire six weeks ago. He was master of the steamer Western States of the Detroit & Buffalo line. He was a brother to CAPTAIN H. C. McCALLUM of the steamer Thomas Adams and CAPTAIN GEORGE McCALLUM of the steel trust fleet. ==========================================================================
