              VETERAN LAKE CAPTAIN DEAD
              
              Detroit, Mich., March 14. - CAPTAIN
            J. COTTRELL, United States inspector
            of hulls at this port and formerly a
            well-known vessel master on the great
            lakes, is dead. CAPTAIN COTTRELL com-
            manded the steamers Maruba, Masuba, 
            Maritana and Victory on their maiden
            trips. He was 54 years old.
