BABOTTE (sic) Passed Away in Milwaukee. Another well-known veteran lake captain has passed away in Capt. DAVID B. CABOTTE, whose home is at 435 Beaufait avenue. Capt. CABOTTE was taken off his vessel, the schooner Biwabik, after suffering a stroke of paralysis, while at Milwaukee last month. He was taken to St. Mary's hospital, that city, where he died. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, under Masonic auspices. The captain was a member of Zion Lodge, F. & A. M., and of the A. O. U. W. He leaves a widow, but no children. He was born in Algonac, March 17, 1851. At the age of 10 years Capt. CABOTTE'S father took him sailing, and among the vessels that he commanded in later years were the Lillie May, the Shawnee, the Mary B. Mitchell, the William McGregor and the Jeanette. Five years ago, in Lake Michigan, the captain brought the Jeanette safely through a big gale, winning much credit. Another boat, the Doty, was lost in the same storm. *Transcriber's Note: the surname was mis-spelled throughout as Cabotte. His surname was CADOTTE and the "Jeanette" referred to was the schooner Olive Jeanette which was in tow of the steamer L. R. Doty which was lost on Lake Michigan on October 25, 1898. Coincidence that the Olive Jeanette was lost on Lake Superior September 3, 1905. =========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ===========================================================================
