Alex St. Barnard, the grizzled lake captain, is dead. He was 85 years old. His life was an eventful one. He was a sailor on the Marshal Ney, which in 1830 landed at Chicago - said to be the first boat that ever reached that harbor. He subsequently served in the Black Hawk war. Capt. St. Barnard has lived quietly at St. Clair for many years, drawing a light pension for services in the civil war. ===========================================================================
