         Aged Man Drops Dead
           In Port Huron Saloon
             From Effect of Heat
             
         Special to the Free Press
         
         Port Huron, Mich., June 23. - Seeking relief from
       the oppressive heat, GEORGE PLANT, 78 years old, an
       inmate of the St. Clair county poor-house, walked
       into a local saloon this afternoon, ordered a glass
       of beer, drank a portion of it and then fell over. 
       Those present rushed to his assistance, but before
       the arrival of a physician life was extinct.
         PLANT had been carrying a pack upon his shoulders
       and had been peddling some wares in the city.
         "The man was never sick a day," said DEMPSTER
       COWLES, keeper of the county poor farm. "When he
       left here Monday he was apparently in the best of
       health.
