Special to the Free Press. Port Huron, Mich., Dec. 6. - HENRY MAITLAND, 87 years old, veteran lake captain of this city, died at his home, 1026 Wall street, late Sunday after a month's illness. Captain MAITLAND had been in the service of the Mathews Steamship company 50 years, and during that time maintained a record of never having lost a ship or figured in a serious accident. J. T. MATHEWS, managing director, and A. E. MATHEWS, secretary and trea- surer of the company, said of Captain MAITLAND: "During your 50 years of service millions of dollars in value of property have been entrusted to your care. We realize that it has been your constant aim to give the public, our patrons, that service which today more than ever is the dominating factor in commercial life." Captain MAITLAND was born in Clark county, Ont., August 19, 1848, and had lived in Port Huron 36 years. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, BLANCHE and FLORENCE, of this city, and four sons, HARRY, Port Huron; ARNOLD, Chicago; ROY, Joplin, Mo., and GORDON, Detroit.
