MARGARET LOHRSTORFER, one of the pioneer residents of Port Huron, died at the home of her son JOSEPH LOHRSTORFER on Washington avenue, Sunday morning. The funeral will be held from St. Stephen's church Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock standard time. MRS. LOHRSTORFER is sur- vived by the following children. EDWARD. LOHRSTORFER was born in Bavaria, Germany, and came to Port Huron in Janu- ary 1859 to join her husband, FREDERICK LOHRSTORFER who came to this city a year before to establish a home. MRS. LOHR- STORFER came to this country in a sailing vessel, the steamship on which she in- tended to make the trip, having burned at the dock in Germany just as it was to set out on the voyage. It took the sail- ing vessel 60 days to reach the port of New York and the passengers were obliged to live on short rations, salt pork and a small quantity of water being all that was dealt out each day. FREDERICK LOHR- STORFER, her husband, who had preceded her by a year, had established a shoe- making business in this city and they decided to make Port Huron their future home. MR. LOHRSTORFER died in 1884. For 35 years MRS. LOHRSTORFER resided at the family home, corner of Beers and St. Clair streets. During her 52 years resi- dence in Port Huron, MRS. LOHRSTORFER witnessed the growth of the city from a village and she had many reminiscenses to relate of the early days. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
