He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN CASLER of Herkimer county, N.Y. His death follows a year's battle with sickness, his old age having finally resulted in his answer to the last call. MR. CASLER came to Port Huron from Canada about 60 years ago. There were very few in- habitants here at that time. For the last ten years he has been practically an invalid, but was forced to take to his bed only last February, following a paralytic stroke. Since that time he failed rapidly. Upon his arrival in this city, MR. CASLER took up the occupation of a journeyman car- penter, which he worked at for a number of years. A short time later he became one of Port Huron's most successful contractors, he having built many of this city's old resi- dences and business blocks. He was the con- tractor for St. Stephen's and Grace Episcopal churches, while he also superintended the construction of the St. Clair county jail. The deceased was of a retiring disposition and never sought public office, but served as a supervisor of the old fourth ward in the year when steps were first taken for the removal of the county seat from St. Clair to this city. His religion was broad enough to embrace all creeds, although he had a leaning toward the Baptist denomination. He was a member of the Masons in Lake St. Clair Lodge at New Baltimore in the year 1856. He was a lifelong member of Port Huron Lodge No. 58, F. & A. M. and also a Knight Templar. MR. CASLER'S first wife was MISS NANCY B. HAGERMAN, who died in the year 1866. Later he married MRS. FANNY E. BIDDLECOMB, who survives him. Besides the widow, two sons are left to mourn his death, CONRAD C. CASLER of this city and LAFAYETTE CASLER, of Detroit. The funeral of MR. CASLER will be held Sunday afternoon from the family residence on Willow street at 2 o'clock and will be private. In accordance with the deceased special wish that no flowers be evident, friends are requested to omit flowers. The funeral will be under the auspices of Port Huron Lodge, F. & A. M. No. 58. Services at the house will be read by Rev. Mr. Payne of the Calvary Baptist church. He will be laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery. ========================================================================== If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ==========================================================================
